HR Services for Ontario Employers

Ontario has no shortage of HR consultants selling people strategy, leadership development, culture transformation and DEI initiatives.

Today, most Ontario small and mid-sized employers have a much simpler problem: they need the HR fundamentals in place, and they need the HR work to get done.

We handle what lands on your desk, including Employment Agreements, Employee Handbooks, employee matters, HR projects and ongoing support. Advice when you need it. Hands-on help when you need someone to take the work and finish it – without turning everything into a strategy exercise.

Built for Ontario Employers

Ontario leaves very little room for weak HR documentation or inconsistent practices. Employment standards, termination rules and required policies can create real exposure when agreements, handbooks or processes fall behind.

We build Ontario requirements into your documents and day-to-day HR practices, then help you apply them practically, with the focus on protecting the business without making HR more complicated than it needs to be.

Who We Help in Ontario

We support small and mid-sized employers throughout Ontario, including Toronto and the GTA, Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London and communities across the province, from businesses building their HR foundation to established teams that need additional capacity or senior expertise.

We often work with:

You’re already running the business. HR is one more thing competing for your time, usually when something else is more important.

We take care of the contracts, handbook, people issues and HR decisions that need attention. We’re business-minded HR professionals who know how to work with busy owners and executives: practical advice, clear answers, and no unnecessary process or HR theatre.

Canadian HR just got added to your job. The rules are different, they vary by province, and you already have a full plate.

We know the differences between US and Canadian employment practices and support employers operating across multiple Canadian provinces. We handle the contracts, policies, employee issues and provincial requirements, and work within your existing US operation without adding Canadian HR headcount.

We can become your Canadian counterpart, handling provincial requirements, employment agreements, policies, employee issues and multi-province questions without expecting you to become the Canadian expert too. You keep ownership of HR. We make sure the Canadian piece is handled properly.

HR keeps ending up with you because payroll is already yours, and because you’re the one who knows how to make things work. But employee records, time off, onboarding, documents and approvals scattered across spreadsheets and email create work you don’t need.

We clean up the HR processes and can implement HR software for companies with as few as 10 employees, so the system actually saves time instead of just digitizing the mess. You get better visibility, fewer manual tasks and less HR landing back on your plate.

Your team is growing, and so is the HR work. Progressive companies put the right HR foundations in place early, before inconsistent practices and bad habits become expensive to untangle.

We’ve been there and know what successful growth looks like. We help you put strong employment agreements, a practical handbook and scalable HR processes in place now, saving time, money and cleanup later.

It also builds value into the business. Investors and buyers want to see that one of your biggest costs, your workforce, is being managed properly, with clear agreements, policies and consistent practices already in place.

When people aren’t all in one place, spreadsheets, email and informal processes get old fast. Time off, employee records, onboarding, documents and approvals become harder to manage, and more of the follow-up lands back on you.

We’ve been working remotely since 2006, long before it became normal. We know how to make HR work when the team is distributed, from clear agreements and policies to practical processes that don’t depend on everyone being in the same office. We also implement HR software for companies with as few as 10 employees, so employees and managers have one place to go instead of another spreadsheet to maintain.

Real projects. Real clients. Their words.

Questions We’re Often Asked

It depends on how you use us. You can find out more about our rates here under About our Rates.

Separate pricing is also available for HR on Call for employers, and HR Helpdesk for your staff.

Every Sienna HR consultant has at least 15 years of HR experience. There are no junior consultant handoffs. Where a project includes administrative or generalist work, we match the level of experience to the work so you’re not paying senior rates for tasks that don’t require them.

We review the agreements you already have, identify where the language has become outdated or leaves the business exposed, and update the template for future use. We can also help you address existing employees who are still working under older agreements.

Yes, but it needs to be handled properly. We help structure the rollout, determine what consideration is appropriate, prepare the agreements and supporting communication, and make the process as straightforward as possible.

  • The Contract: An Employment Agreement sets out the binding terms of employment and the protections that matter to the business, including termination, confidentiality, restrictive covenants and other role-specific terms. It’s the pre-nup you put into place before things go wrong.
  • The Play Book: The Employee Handbook contains the policies, procedures and workplace expectations that apply more broadly across the business.

They serve different purposes and should work together, not repeat or contradict one another.

Ontario has seen years of court decisions scrutinizing termination clauses, with complex and sometimes conflicting rulings turning seemingly small wording issues into expensive problems for employers.

If your Employment Agreement doesn’t contain an enforceable termination clause, an employee’s termination entitlements can default to common-law reasonable notice, which can be significantly more expensive than the minimum requirements under the ESA.

That’s why tight, current Employment Agreements matter so much in Ontario.
